I have 2 job interviews this afternoon. They are for second jobs. I need something to fill up my evenings, and the extra money would be nice. I would be very good at either job, and have all the qualifications necessary for each. And it's not like I don't have a full time job already. But I am INSANELY nervous. I haven't been on any kind of interview in 10 years. That is a VERY long time.
I know I will do fine. People like me. And I perform well under pressure. But still!!
]]>I come to work to socialize. I will admit it. I love my co-workers, almost all of them. But I get my work done. More work than they expect from me. And most days I have a blast.
There is one lady here that has a personality conflict with almost everyone she comes into contact with. She has the worst attitude of any person I've ever met. But really, it's the fault of the management here for letting it go on so long. She's been here a couple years. I know of at least 2 people that have actually quit working here because they were so tired of dealing with her. But I get along with Leslie. We hang out after work hours, we mostly get along at work, and I love her kids. She tests my patience a lot, but I'm so laid back that most petty stuff doesn't bother me very much. Or if it does, I do a little venting, and then I'm done with it.
Last week, Leslie got suspended. It was kind of an accumulation of her attitude, a run in she had with the plant superintendent, and a huge mistake she made for the second time. It's really, really hard to get suspended around here, there is very little accountability. So this is a huge deal.
Yesterday, I texted Leslie, trying to just be friendly and not bring up work stuff. She's the one I'm in the gym contest with, so I was texting her about that. She was very short, and when I asked her if she wanted to talk about stuff, she said, "I don't think I should be talking to anyone in the office." Okay, fine. I can take that. If you want to drop our friendship, or even just take a break from it for a while, I can deal with that.
But I can tell this morning that the junior high b*llsh*t is starting. I can't tell you how much I hate that. Adela and I were sitting there chatting for a few minutes about our weekends and whatnot, and she walks in. I say good morning, she kind of grunts at me. Adela says good morning, and she gives an even shorter little grunt. I tell her that Christine isn't coming in, and she doesn't respond. I say, "Leslie, there are some things downloaded and ready to go for you. Do you want me to hand you the clipboard?" and she COMPLETELY ignores me. I made sure to say her name in the sentence, because I wanted her to know I was talking directly to her. So yes, she ignored me on purpose.
Deep breath.
I don't care if you don't like me. I don't care if you don't want to be friends. But dammit, you WILL be courteous to me as a co-worker, especially when I treat you with nothing but respect. I don't take sides in the personality conflicts because I am friends with all the girls. I let them all vent to me, but I don't turn around and tell one what the other said. I just don't have time for that crap. I'm not going to play her little games.

I want Funny.
I want to laugh till my belly hurts and I'm holding my sides and I want to do it with someone I'm crazy about. The funnier someone is to me, the more attractive they get. On the flip side, you could be Brad Pitt, but un-funny, and I wouldn't find you attractive in the least.
I want Kind.
I want kindness that is there when people aren't looking, that softness that isn't a weakness but a strength, the kind of compassion that kids always sense and flock to.
I want Brave.
So many things can be accomplished, overcame, pushed aside, lived through, if you just have the courage to face them. I want someone that isn't afraid to show up for the unknown. I want to know that his hand is mine to hold, or be held by, even when things are scary. That doesn't mean he can't be scared too. Bravery isn't the absence of fear, just the ability to keep standing in the face of it.

Okay. That's out of the way.
I don't eat a lot of sugary things. It's just not that interesting to me usually. Unless it's ice cream. So I make it a point to not keep ice cream in my freezer. Any how. Someone (I haven't figured out who yet) brought in Krispy Kreme donuts. That's a big deal around here, still. We only have a few Krispy Kreme donut shops in the state, and they are always packed. So of course I had to have one.
I'm pretty sure that it was made out of nothing but sugar.
As I put the last bite in my mouth, I could already feel the sugar coursing through my veins. That was 15 minutes ago. I think my eyes are bugging out now, and I'm forgetting to blink. I better not finish this cup of coffee I poured. I'm having issues typing as it is.

So I was just telling this story to a couple co-workers and thought maybe I'd share it with ya'll too.
When I was about 9 or 10, my step-brother says, "Hey Meg, do you wanna play chicken?"
Being a girl, that had mostly grown up in an all female world, I had heard of chicken, but wasn't exactly sure what it entailed. But, being a girl that was up for anything, I said, "Sure, what do we do?"
Now, in our neighborhood there lived a bike. No one knew who the bike belonged to, it had just always been there, and everyone rode it and left it wherever, and used it on jumps that were too risky for regular "good" bikes. It was old. It was huge. It was probably made out of 70 pounds of pure steel. And it was indestructable.
Greg grabs this bike that was conveniently located close to our front yard, and said, "You stand in the middle of the road, and I go down there to the end of the street, then I ride the bike straight at you as fast as I can go. If you move, you are a chicken, if I swerve, I'm the chicken."
Now here is where my thought process breaks down. All I understand really is that I'm not no chicken darn it! And if I have to play his dumb game to prove it, well then so be it!
Needless to say, I was not a chicken. Neither was he.
I had a bruise on my pelvis for a month. But the fact that I didn't cry (I did make a pretty good low moaning sound for about ten minutes as I rolled around in the street) and didn't tattle on Greg earned me all kinds of non-chicken points with the neighborhood kids. Also, it was a relatively inexpensive life lesson.
If you are on foot, you will lose any fight you have with something metal on wheels. Get out of the way.
